Madrid, 18 November 2024 – During the 1st Conference on biomethane organised by the Popular Parliamentary Group in the Congress of Deputies to which RIC Energy has been invited as a leading company in the development of biomethane plants, Jos\u00e9 Luis Moya, CEO of RIC Energy, stressed the need to bet on biogas as a fundamental pillar in the country’s energy transition. Moya considered that Spain has a unique opportunity to lead the biogas sector in southern Europe. \u2018This is the time to commit to renewable energy that will allow us to achieve climate objectives, reduce energy dependence and generate employment in rural areas\u2019, concluded the spokesperson during his speech at the Congress.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The session moderated by the third secretary of the Bureau of the Congress of Deputies, Guillermo Mariscal, from the Partido Popular, was also attended by Jos\u00e9 Luis Gil, Managing Director of Naturgy, Joan Batalla, President of Sedigas, and Francisco Fustes, Chief Strategy Officer of Verdalia.
According to data from the Spanish Gas Association (Sedigas), to reach the full potential it would be necessary to build between 400 and 500 additional plants, which would allow annual biogas production to scale up from the current 0.54 TWh to 20 TWh by 2030, a target set out in the Biogas Roadmap and the latest revision of the PNIEC. This development would put Spain in line with European countries such as France and Italy, which have already taken the lead in this technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
With only nine biomethane plants currently in operation, Spain faces an unprecedented challenge and opportunity to develop this renewable and sustainable sector.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
